This first scale form I have called the "Ionian Form".
This is not a universal name, but it is useful in helping you
differentiate between the 7 different scale forms presented in
this lesson. Ionian is the modal name for a major scale. (See
modes 101) If you play this scale form starting on the fret
indicated, these are the notes of a G major scale.
